Created in Belém, Festival Psica has become one of the main showcases for contemporary Amazonian music, bringing together carimbó, tecnobrega, brega pop, rap, samba, reggae, manguebeat, aparelhagens, and Afro-Indigenous experimentation through a curatorial approach that shifts the center of Brazilian music toward the North. Founded by brothers Jeft and Gerson Dias, the festival grew out of a peripheral and Pará-based listening practice, placing local artists in dialogue with national and international names such as Dona Onete, Jaloo, Gaby Amarantos, Luedji Luna, Martinho da Vila, Jorge Aragão, and The 5.6.7.8’s. Rather than presenting the Amazon only as a natural landscape, Psica projects Belém as an urban, creative, Black, Indigenous, riverside, pop, and global territory, capable of attracting audiences from outside the city and producing a more complex image of cultural Brazil.
